Finally, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has ushered in a new leadership to steer the affairs of the Association for the next two years.

This is coming after the election conducted by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) had been duly concluded as scheduled.

In any case, it was revealed that 18256 ballots were submitted of 29636 eligible voters (205 opened) while 28525 emails and 17887 SMS sent of which 15234 notices remain undeliverable.

Meanwhile, the election result which was announced by the Chairman of the ECNBA Tawo.E. Tawo, SAN shows as follows:

For the office of the President, Olumide Akpata won with a total of 9,892 votes (54.3%) defeating Julius Oladele Adeshina, SAN and Dr. Babatubde Ajibade, SAN, FCIARB who polled 3,982 and 4,328 votes respectively.

Also, for the office of the 1st Vice President, John O. Aikpokpo-Martins won with a total of 6,010 votes, defeating Sulayman, Dawud Adamu, who pulled 2039, (11.7%), Ajoba, Oluwaseun Ezekiel, who pulled 1201(7.2%) Akinlade, Adebayo Ademola, who pulled 2186 (12.6), Adetunji,Adedotun Habeeb who pulled 1749 (10.1%) and Siyonbola Ganiyat Adetutu who pulled 4098 (23.6%)

Similarly, for the office of 2nd Vice President, Adeyemo, Kazeem Debo won with 8,794 votes defeating Abimbola, Adesola Sunday, who pulled 6432(43.1%)

In addition, for the office of General Secretary, Oduah, Joyce won with 8,979 votes defeating Muoka, Alexander Nduka, who pulled 5763(33.3%), Ohagba, Okey Leo who pulled 2443(14.1), and Yakemewerigha, Christopher Opute, who pulled votes (2.7%)

Also, for the office of Assistant Secretary, Nwadialo, Esther Uchenna won with 7, 314 votes defeating Agi, Anne Uruegi who pulled 7067(40.6%)votes and Osagie, Aigbokhai Oaikhena, who pulled 3040(17.4%) votes

However, for the office of Treasurer, Mercy, Ijato Agada emerged unopposed who scored 15, 488 votes.

Furthermore, for the office of Welfare Secretary, Edun, Olukunle won with 9,001 votes defeating Anyia, Sabastine Abuo, who pulled 7620(45.8) votes

Also, for the office of Financial Secretary, Anagor, Raphael Nnamdi emerges unopposed with 15, 825 votes.

For the office of Publicity Secretary, Nduka, Rapuluchukwu Ernest (PhD.) won with 11,965 votes, defeating Sokoya, Olayinka Ayodeji, who pulled 4,998(29.5%)

Finally, for the office of Asst. Publicity Secretary, Naza, Ferdinand Afam wins with 6,490 votes defeating Aigbokhan President E., who pulled 2692(16.0%) votes, Ajiboye Charles Olawale, pulled 5752(34.3%), while Ochenehi Dominic Sunday, pulled 1858(11.1%) votes

However, after the declaration of results by ECNBA, Aderemi Oguntoye on behalf of Olumide Akpata thanked the ECNBA for the job well done. Also, ThankGod Enahoro, on behalf of Dr. Ajibade, SAN equally thanked the ECNBA and stated that he would communicate to his principal on way forward and appropriate scrutiny. Besides, Hauwa Shekarau, NBA Abuja Chair, who stood as an election observer on behalf of NBA Women’s Forum expressed her delight in the process and stated that it is gratifying to note that the election is trackable by everyone but however, she stated that there is need for improvement in the subsequent process having regards to the lessons learnt from the just concluded elections.

Meanwhile, while speaking at the NBA Headquarters in Abuja with supporters, Mr. Olumide Akpata expresses his appreciation for being voted in and assured that by the grace of God, transformational leadership would be witnessed in his administration

“We would look back to this day with gratitude. We would thank God we have produced this same person. We would never regret this day.”

“And the Bar will work for all” He concluded.
