The Lagos State Government on Monday arraigned a resident, Ben Emmanuel, before the Yaba Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Ismaila Lukman.
Emmanuel allegedly assaulted Lukman on November 8, 2020, around 2pm while the latter was performing his duty around Jakande Junction, in the Lekki area of the state.
The victim was reported to be controlling traffic at the junction when the defendant approached him and asked that traffic be stopped for him to cross.
Emmanuel allegedly stepped onto the carriageway in front of moving traffic and caused disruption to traffic flow.
When Lukman asked him to leave the road, Emmanuel and two other passersby were alleged to have beaten up the LASTMA official.
He was arraigned on two counts bordering on causing grievous bodily harm and resisting a public officer.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, Wahab Balogun, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till November 26, 2020, for trial.
