President Muhammadu Buhari has finally addressed protesting Nigerians over the issue of the end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Police Force.
The president said that the announced disbandment was only a step to “extensive police reforms in order to ensure that the primary duty of the police and other law enforcement agencies remains the protection of lives and livelihood of our people”.
In his address, Buhari assured the protesters that those who have engaged in brutalising citizens will be “brought to justice”.
He also directed that the deaths recorded from the brutalities endured in the hands of the rogue officers and the Police Force as a whole be investigated.
Buhari restated that a “majority of men and women of the police force are hardworking and diligent” in the carrying out of their duties.
He reminded Nigerians not to allow the “few bad eggs” in the force to tarnish the image of the Force.
