Indigent children in Koton Karfi, Kogi state, have been given an educational lifeline as Hauwa Atiku-Uwais today in Lokoja dolled out the sum of five hundred thousand naira to support Honourable Shaba Ibrahim in his quest to give quality education to children in Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency.

Speaking at the Commemoration of Hon. Shaba’s one year in office as a federal legislator, the daughter of former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said that she was not happy when she visited Koton Karfi and saw quite a number of school-age children running around when they should have been learning.

Atiku-Uwais further said that her family has invested heavily in education by granting scholarships and subsidizing American-styled education in Nigeria. The donation of half a million naira elicited excitement and gratitude from members of the constituency who were present at the event.

One of the respondents described Hauwa Atiku-Uwais as an “angel in the nick of time” while Isa Amodu, a vulcanizer, expressed hope that his daughter would be among the children covered by the donation.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Atiku-Uwais promised to do more to ensure that more children get the education they deserve.

“It (education) is a fundamental right of all the  children in the world and we must agree that to educate them also secures the future of this great country.”

“We cannot afford to have so many children out of school when there’s so much restiveness in the land,” she concluded.
