An Ile-Ife Magistrate Court in Osun on Monday remanded a 20-year-old man, Amubieya Timileyin, over alleged N2.5 million fraud.
The Prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offense on Nov. 18, at about 4:41 p.m. at Aba Iya-Gani area in Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant obtained the sum of N2.5 million from one Akinrodoye Olakunle with the pretense of selling a Lexus 350 LR to the complainant, but that he failed to do.
He said that the defendant converted the money to his own use.
The prosecutor said that the offense contravened Sections 383(3), 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The Defense Counsel, Sunday Olagbaju, applied for bail for the defendant in the most liberal term.
Olagbaju pledged that his client would not jump bail and that he would provide reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, A. A. Adebayo, did not grant bail to the defendant.
He, however, told the defense counsel to come up with a written application.
Adebayo, therefore, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional facility at Ile-Ife.
He adjourned the case until Dec. 10 for hea
