An Ebonyi State Magistrate Court, sitting in Abakaliki, on Monday remanded a 20-year-old man, Izuchukwu Akpu, for alledgedly killing one Kenneth Nwakwo.

He was arraigned before the court on one count of murder on Monday.

It was learnt that Akpu and late Nwankwo were apprentices in a mechanic workshop, in Abakaliki metropolis.

It was gathered that their master gave them N1,500.00 as feeding money on the day of the incident.

A source said trouble started when the suspect took N800 and gave the sum of N700.00 to the deceased, who rejected the unequal sharing.

An argument was said to have ensued, and the suspect allegedly picked a screw driver and stabbed the victim.

The source said, Nwankwo died on the way to hospital.

The police prosecutor, Mathias Eze, told the court that the offense was punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 33, Vol. 1, Law of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

The suspect confessed to the crime and pleaded to court for mercy.

The defense counsel, Benjamin Ufiem, pleaded for leniency and asked that his client be granted bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Nnenna Onuoha, said the court lacked the jurisdiction to adjudicate on the matter, ordering that the suspect be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, while his case file should be transferred to the Director ate of Public Prosecutions.

The matter was adjourned till December 11, 2020.
