23-year old man, Segun Lawal, on Thursday appeared before an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ile Ife, for allegedly assaulting a policeman.

The police prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 31, 2020 at the Mayfair area, Ile Ife.

Osanyintuyi explained that the defendant had earlier assaulted one Sunday Micheal by using sharp objects to inflict injuries on his mouth, while a wristwatch valued at N10,000 belonging to the victim was also damaged.

When invited to the police station to answer to the allegations, Lawal allegedly refused and resisted arrest.

He was alleged to have assaulted the cop, identified as Inspector Akinpelu Olaoluwa, by punching him in the chest.

Lawal pleaded not guilty to the four counts.

The defense counsel, J.O. Amole, urged the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.

The magistrate, A.A Ayeni, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 and adjourned the case till October 15, 2020 for hearing.
